Indicative design aids — every figure and its source is listed under "Figures based on" below.

Figures based on

  • Carbon steel density 7850: BS EN 1993-1-1:2005 §3.2.6
  • Galvanised steel: No source — workshop figure: treated as steel, the zinc coating being 1–2% of the mass; an input (pick steel)
  • Stainless 1.4301 7900 and 1.4401 8000: BS EN 10088-1:2023 physical properties
  • Aluminium 2700: BS EN 1999-1-1:2007 §3.2.5
  • Brass 8470, copper 8940, cast iron 7200: Typical — no standard tabulates them; supplier data sheets (Aalco; EN 1561 gives cast iron 7100–7300). Confirm against your supplier's data sheet
  • Hollow and open sections: Geometry — sharp-corner area × density; published masses (BS EN 10210-2:2019, BS EN 10219-2:2019) allow for corner radii and land within about two per cent of it
  • UB / UC / PFC: BS EN 10365:2017 serial sizes; the nominal mass is the designation's last number, and the SCI Blue Book P363 values differ from it by up to about 1%

Indicative design aids. "Typical" means no current standard sets it: follow your WPS and the consumable or gas data sheet named. "No source" means a workshop estimate: adjust to suit, or, where the box says it is fixed, a fixed estimating assumption.
